| These beautiful medium large to large sized
parrots originated in Australia. They
are known to be particularly affectionate and cuddly when young, and
can range from almost pure, soft white – the Umbrella, so named for the
bird’s ability to hold its long head-feathers erect – to the stunningly
beautiful Major Mitchell’s (also known as Lead Beaters) and
Rose-Breasted Cockatoos. Some
have described the average cockatoo’s personality as “needy,” and this
definitely is not a bird for someone who does not have adequate time to
give to the parrot. The
Cockatoo family also has a tendency to produce large amounts of bird
“dander” – a consideration for those prone to allergies. And, while not the largest of
parrots, Cockatoos certainly can be among the loudest – particularly
the Moluccan and Umbrella. Other
Cockatoos which Birds N’ Things offer for adoption are the Citron, the
Goffins, the Triton, and the Lesser/Greater Sulfur, all of whom are
smaller in size than the Umbrella and often considerably less noisy.
