| This
parrot family, which has its origins in Southeast Asia, is known for
its uniquely stunning beauty: the feathering of the Eclectus has an
almost baby-fine quality, and this is one species of parrot where color
differentiates gender (all other parrots except the Cockatiel cannot be
gender-distinguished by coloration). This parrot also tends to
molt less and produce less “dander” – something that may be important
to those with allergies. Said by some to be more “standoffish”
hand-fed Eclectus that are socialized make excellent companions, and in
fact may be less aggressive than some other parrot species. The
Eclectus parrot is very capable of speech, but the speech is generally
softer and sometimes less distinct than Amazons and Greys, yet is in
the same size range. Among the Eclectus parrots available from
Birds N’ Things are the Red-Sided, the Vosmarie, and the Solomon
Island. The Vosmarie and Solomon are noted for being gentle,
which makes them ideal around (properly socialized) children. |
