The cockatiel is an easy going, friendly and inquisitive bird, which is why they are among the most popular type of pet bird. Because of this, cockatiel bird cages are commonly found in nearly all pet stores. They range in size from small, hanging cages to much larger, cabinet sized cages.
When trying to choose between the many available cockatiel bird cages, most people recommend going with the largest one you can afford. These birds, while fairly small in size, need room to move about and flap their wings. They also have somewhat long tails, and the cage should be large enough that the tail doesn’t drag along the ground or get tangled up in the cage.
Cockatiel bird cages should also be large enough to include food and water dishes, perches, and toys for your pet. The bars of the cage should be close enough so that the bird can’t get stuck if it tries to stick its head between them. Most experts also recommend that these cages have horizontal bars as well as vertical bars, to allow the bird to climb around and get some exercise.
