Bird Cage CoverA nesting box bird house is designed to encourage certain birds to create a nest and stay a while. These are often simple in design and can be either purchased from a store or made yourself. While there is no guarantee that any birds will take up residence, if placed in the proper location, the chances are usually relatively good.

Location is the key to making sure your nesting box bird house will get used. Birds have many predators, and as such the nesting box should be placed somewhere that will be well protected. While a hanging them from a tree might be the “obvious” choice of location, the truth is that a tall metal pole, set away from any trees is the better option if you want to keep predators at bay.

Keeping insects and parasites to a minimum is also important to keeping a nesting box bird house. The house should be cleaned out each year to keep mites and other parasites from taking over. Many people coat the inside in soap to keep bees and wasps from creating their own homes inside the bird house.
