Many people like the idea of talking parrots. They are intrigued by the notion of having a bird who can mimic words and sounds. There are many species of parrots that can be taught words, although some learn them better than others.
The most famous talking birds are the large breeds of parrot, including the African Grey Parrot and the Macaw. These are the breeds that most often come to mind when someone thinks about a talking parrot. But many smaller breeds also talk. The Budgerigar is a small parrot that has been known to have a large vocabulary. There is one on record as knowing almost 2000 words.
It should be kept in mind that teaching a parrot to talk can be a long process. Some will pick the idea up quickly, and others will be difficult. But once you get them trained, talking parrots are a delight to have and enjoy.
